An easy walk and nice stretch that largely follows the Path of Kristina (Kristinastigen). According to the tradition, Kristinastigen was built on the orders of Queen Kristina, since in the 17th century, the roads north of Gävle were in very poor condition. Nowadays, a great part of Kristinastigen is probably buried under the paved roads.
The trail runs through the old countryside with several ancient remains, partially through agricultural countryside, but mostly through woodland. In Trödje you will find a shop and pizza place. When you get to Hamrånge, you will have more services, like hostels and other accommodation, a patisserie, a restaurant and a grocery store. There is also a doll museum!
On the map, the trail turns to the west just before the Church of Hamrånge. At the sight you will find a couple of signs about Helgonleden and Bergby/Hamrånge.
At Bergbykrogen you will find nice food for a reasonable price. There is also a painting with a ship where it says Olav, which is interesting, since we find ourselves on the St. Olav road - but there is probably no connection here.
Provide with water and food in Bergby for your continued hike!
You can make a shorter stage and stay over in Viksjö, or you can go all the way to Småströmmarna.
Don't forget to book your lodging at Småströmmarnas Pilgrimshärbärge, go to the stage Helgonleden, Viksjö-Småströmmarna for more information!
